Anderson S.C.- In its inaugural game, the Anderson University women's lacrosse team beat the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors at home on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans battled the Warriors outscoring them in three out of four periods to secure their dominant 27-8 victory.

The Trojans converted on 27 out of 35 shots with nine different players recording goals. Hannah Thomas led all scorers with seven goals ahead of Cassidy Jones close behind with six. Alicia Cannon tallied four, Gwen Ontiveros netted three, while Lili Bouwma and Laine Stanton each notched two goals. Zella Stratbucker, Katy Snyder, and Grace Van Dinter rounded out Anderson scorers with one goal each.

The Black and Gold topped the Warriors 25-12 in draw controls with Alicia Cannon winning a total of 17 draws. Zella Stratbucker, Grave Veroneau, and Katy Snyder each had two while Gwen Ontiveros and Jackie Tiongco each added one.

Kora Turner and Ava Drath each recorded one save on the day between the posts for the Trojans.

How It Happened

The Trojans came out strong scoring their first goal less than a minute into the game. They scored 3 more before SWU scored their first goal of the game. AU finished the first period 13-2 over the Warriors with five free position goals.

The Black and Gold headed into period two scoring in the first minute again maintaining a tone of attack notching six more goals before the half. SWU headed into halftime with four goals.

In the third quarter, Anderson scored five more goals with Cassidy Jones scoring back-to-back goals to put the Trojans up 23-5 over SWU.

The Warriors and Trojans tied 3-3 in the fourth period to finish the game as both teams battled until the final horn.
