Women’s Golf Remains Ninth after Second Round of SAC Championship

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - After two rounds at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championship, junior Braiden Furtick continues to pace the Anderson women's golf team, as the Trojans remain in ninth place following the second round of the three-day event, which is being hosted by Carson-Newman at the par-72, 5859-yard Sevierville Country Club.

Defending champion Wingate trimmed 10 shots off its opening-round score to overtake first-round leader Newberry and claim a five stroke lead over the Wolves after Monday's second round. The Bulldogs hold a 10-stroke advantage over Queens and Carson-Newman, which are tied for third. Lincoln Memorial is fifth after shooting a combined score of 321 and the Railsplitters are 19 strokes behind Wingate. Catawba is in sixth and Coker is seventh.

Tusculum, Anderson, Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne round out the 11-team field.

Queen's Grace Glaze leads the individual competition by three strokes over Newberry's Karly Mims after carding a 76 during the second round. Newberry's Marianna Monaco is third and four strokes behind Glaze. There is a four-way tie for fourth-place with LMU's Lindsay Davis, Carson-Newman's Danielle Baiunco, and Wingate's duo of Caitlin Starrs and Mikaela Hadaway. The four golfers are five strokes off the lead at 155.

Hadaway shot the tournament low-score of 73 on Monday, while the Carson-Newman duo of Jessica Hart and Rebekah Pruett shot rounds of 74 during the second round, which is the second-lowest total over the course of two days.
Furtick's consistent effort with a 12-over-par 84 each day places her in a tie for 33rd, while seniors Sarah Timms (89-83=172) and Natalie Feder (90-84=174) each trimmed six strokes from Monday's opening round and sit in 37th place and 40th place, respectively.

Junior Arista Setro (90-87=177) shares the 44th spot, while teammate Garyt Hamilton (97-96=193) is alone in 55th.

The third and final round of the three-day event is scheduled to get underway on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., with Hamilton slated to begin at the 10th tee at 9:20 a.m.
