Women’s Golf in 15th Place Following Opening Round of Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - Paced by junior Braiden Furtick's 8-over-par 80, the Anderson women's golf team is in 15th place following first-round action of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, co-hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial on Monday.

For the second consecutive year, the two-day event is being held at Sea Trail Golf Resort's Rees Jones Course, a 5,810 yard, par 72 layout.

This year's tournament features 20 teams with 10 of the 12 South Atlantic Conference programs competing in the 15th edition of the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. Along with the Lady Railsplitters, Lenoir-Rhyne, Anderson, Catawba, Newberry, Coker, Queens, Tusculum, Mars Hill and Wingate will be attendance. The tournament field is rounded out by Limestone, Pfeiffer, Mount Olive, Florida Tech, Barton, Belmont Abbey, King, Erskine, Emmanuel and UVA-Wise.

Florida Tech (299) posted an 11-over-par team score and leads Newberry (307) and Wingate (307) by eight strokes, while Limestone (308) holds the fourth slot. Lincoln Memorial (313) is fifth, with Queens (314), King (314), Coker (318), and Catawba (321) rounding out the top 10.

The Trojans (337) are three strokes behind Barton and trail Pfeiffer by four, while leading Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne by three shots.

Florida Tech's Johanna Larsson posted the lone sub-par score of the opening round with a 4-under-par 68 and leads Wingate's Natalia Segura by four strokes. Erskine's Krysta Schaus is one shot further back in third after carding a 73.

Heading into Tuesday's final round, Furtick is in a seven-way tie for 33rd, while senior Natalie Feder carded a first-round 10-over par 82 and shares the 51st spot. Senior Sarah Timms fired an opening-round 86 and sits in a five-way tie for 71st, with junior Garyt Hamilton posting an 89 and is tied for 82nd.

The final round is set for Tuesday.
