Women’s Golf in 14th at Flagler’s Fall Slam

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Led by junior Braiden Furtick's 9-over-par 81, the Anderson University women's golf team is in 14th-place following Monday's opening round at the 12th Annual Flagler Fall Slam, hosted at the Marsh Creek Country Club.

None of the talent-laden 15-team field was able to solve the 6,062-yard, par-72 layout, with just two players carding even-par or better scores during the first round. Fourth-ranked Lynn University was atop the leaderboard with an opening-round 304 and leads host and eighth-ranked Flagler College (308) by four shots. Seminole State was two shots further back after a first-round 310, with 19th-ranked Armstrong State in fourth after a 311 on the opening day. Montevallo and Wingate each posted 323s and are tied for sixth, while 18th-ranked Limestone (327) is eighth.

Tusculum (329) and Catawba (330) are ninth and 10th, respectively, while North Georgia and 25th-ranked Northeastern State (Okla.) share the 11th spot after notching 332s on the day. Tampa (340), Anderson (350) and Eckerd (356) round out the 15-team field.

Barry's Francesca Perini fired the lone sub-par round of the day with a 1-under 71 and leads Lynn's Jessica Bradley by one shot. Eight additional golfers are within four shots of the lead.

Furtick's score placed her in a five-way tie for 32nd, while senior Natalie Feder carded an 88 and is tied for 64th. Fellow senior Sarah Timms is alone in 71st after an opening-round 90, while junior Arista Setro is just behind in 72nd following a first-round 91. Junior Garyt Hamilton rounded out the Trojan effort with a 96 and is in 78th.

The two-day event is scheduled to wrap up on Tuesday.
