Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at AU Invitational; Furtick Places Fifth

ANDERSON, S.C. - Junior Braiden Furtick and senior Sarah Timms each posted a second-round 8-over-par 80 to lead the Anderson women's golf team to fifth place at the AU Invitational, hosted at the Cobb's Glen par-72, 5,940-yard layout on Tuesday.

Defending champion Erskine (317-309=626) led the two-day tournament wire-to-wire, as the Flying Fleet snapped an opening-round tie with Milligan (317-320=637), with the Buffaloes slipping to fourth following the final round.

Fellow South Atlantic Conference-members Lincoln Memorial (319-314=633) and Queens (324-312=636) each moved up one spot after improving their collective team scores to finish second and third, respectively. The Trojans (327-330=657) trailed Milligan, with Mars Hill (345-326=671) improving by a total 19 strokes to remain in sixth. Spartanburg Methodist (359-355=714) placed seventh, while Brevard had three players compete as individuals in the final round.

Erskine senior Rachel Moore (74-73=147) captured the individual medalist title after firing a two-round 3-over-par. Queens' Kylie Nizolek (76-73=149) claimed the second spot after snapping an opening-round tie with Milligan's Mollie Stone (76-81=157), who fell into a tie for fifth. Spartanburg Methodist's Nikita Arjun (77-74=151) vaulted from fifth to third, with Erskine's Krysta Schaus (79-74=153) moving from a five-way tie for seventh into fourth.

Furtick (75-80=155) slipped three spots to fifth, but led the field with 25 pars over the two-day event. Feder (79-84=163) posted a pair of birdies and 17 pars, but dropped from a tie for seventh to sharing the 16th spot, with fellow senior Sarah Timms (86-80=166) marking the largest improvement of the AU squad. She garnered six total birdies for the event and finished in a tie for 23rd. Juniors Garyt Hamilton (87-86=173) and Arista Setro (87-86=173) notched identical two-day 29-over par 173s to share 26th.

Anderson resumes its fall schedule Oct. 6-7 at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
