AC Women Take Lander Title Again; Schaffner Wins

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Anderson College women's cross country team won the Lander Invitational Cross Country meet for the fifth straight year, and Anderson freshman Ethan Schaffner won the men's individual title Saturday morning at the Lander cross country course. The Lady Trojans placed three runners in the top 10 and four runners in the top 23 to beat host Lander by 11 points in the 5K event. Jennifer Hitt, a freshman from Simpsonville, (20:46) finished fifth, Ashley Smoak (21:28) came in ninth, Kacey Harold (21:50) finished in 10th place, and Ashten Guffee (22:52) took the 23rd position. In the men's race, Schaffner, a freshman from Baltimore, Ohio, claimed the first individual title of his career with a time of 27:57 in the 8K event. Schaffner beat David Vass of Spartanburg Methodist by 51 seconds to take the title. Anderson had three other runners place in the top 20 - Matt Atkinson (29:38, 8th), Patrick Burt (30:08, 13th), and John Roddy (30:32, 18th). Spartanburg Methodist won the men's team by placing five runners in the top 10. Presbyterian was second, and Anderson finished third, 10 points behind the Blue Hose. Season Results
