Trojans’ First Road Test Comes At Coker

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson men's tennis hits the road for the first time in SAC play this spring against Coker on Wednesday afternoon. Both squads are looking for their first conference win of the season. 

Match Information:

 

Who: Anderson Trojans (4-3, 0-2 SAC) vs. Coker Cobras (1-7, 0-2 SAC)

Where: Byerly Park, Hartsville, S.C.

When: Wednesday, March 13, 2024

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Last Meeting at AU: AU won 5-2 on March 15, 2023

Last Meeting at Coker: AU won 7-0 on March 26, 2022

Series History: AU leads 19-3, including an active 6-match win streak

 

SCOUTING COKER

  • Coker looks to return to form after a pair of losses to strong opponents Wingate and Lincoln Memorial.

  • Junior Samuel Winter has recorded wins at the No. 3 and 4 spots in the Cobras' singles lineup this season, including a third-set tiebreak win against Francis Marion.

  • In doubles, Coker dropped a tight doubles point against Lincoln Memorial last time out, but were victorious 6-4 at No. 3. Sophomore Andy Huynh and freshman Joao Casas Moreira teamed up for the win.

  • Head coach Tom Simpson leads the Cobras. The Oakland University alum has helped lead Coker to program bests in the national rankings as well as securing Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year honors in 2012-13.

 

LAST TIME HERE

AU was victorious 5-2 when the two teams met a season ago. The No. 17-ranked Trojans extended their home winning streak to 12 matches behind a doubles sweep and four singles victories.

 

SKY IS THE LIMIT

Freshman Sky Thavornchaisophon is off to a hot start to his spring season. The Bangkok, Thailand native has won his last three singles matches and two of three doubles matches to lead the Trojans. Last time out, he was the first singles match off court, winning 6-4, 6-1 against Lincoln Memorial.
