Eskridge Reaches 200 Career Wins, No. 44 Trojans Sweep Doubleheader

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – No. 44-ranked Anderson men's tennis (4-1) swept a doubleheader at Pfeiffer (0-2) on Tuesday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center, winning 7-2 and 8-1. The first win gave Trojans head coach Joey Eskridge his 200th win as men's head coach.

The first match began with singles play. AU took all six matches in straight sets, highlighted by Mathis Collignon's 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, and Drew Cagle grabbing a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Following the singles, the teams played the doubles portion of both matches simultaneously. In the first match, all three doubles courts were extremely close, but Pfeiffer fought back to take points at No. 1 and No. 2. AU's Collignon and Hampton Goldman earned an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

In the doubles for the second match, AU took 2 of the 3 matches. Junior Corey Garrity and freshman Sky Thavornchaisophon breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 1, and sophomore Frank Braga and freshman Poojith Reddy posted an 8-4 win also. The Falcons won the remaining contest.

The Trojans bookended the day by sweeping another set of six singles matches. Braga and Garrity defeated their opponents in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Thavornchaisophon, sophomore Charlie Lynch, Reddy, and sophomore Adam Buckner each recorded their first career singles wins.

COACH'S CORNER

"We played a quality Division III school today," said AU Head Coach Joey Eskridge. "They were tough, with 12 solid guys. Our A team won 7-2, but actually ended up losing two doubles matches, which we're going to work on. That's going to give us something to work on over break. The B team won 8-1, only losing one of the doubles. I'm proud of the guys, they've helped me hit a milestone as a coach and I look forward to the spring and us getting better through the fall. The Lord has blessed us with safe travel and good weather, and we just hope for more of that."
