Trojans Able to Preserve Early Lead to Defeat Emmanuel; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University women's soccer scored two quick goals in the first half of action to defeat nonconference opponent Emmanuel, 2-1, on Tuesday evening at Spero Financial Field.

With the win, the Black and Gold move to 2-3-1 on the young season while the Lions fall to 1-4 overall.

"I was happy with the strong start displayed by our team today," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We still have lots of things to improve, but we are headed in the right direction."

Anderson opened the scoring up under the first minute of action when freshman Ansley Donovan took advantage of a break away and kicked it past the keeper. The goal was Donovan's first career goal.

Anderson's second goal came on a perfectly placed free kick by Sarah Miller that sailed over the keeper's head to put the Trojans up, 2-0, midway through the first half.

The Lions were able to cut the lead into half when Zoe Logue found teammate Brianna Bishop streaking toward the goal. Bishop was able to beat Campbell one on one to get Emmanuel within striking distance (58:27).

The Trojans settled and got solid defensive play from its backline and junior Jeanette Campbell made two outstanding saves to preserve the victory.

Anderson outshot the Lions,18-5, and won the corner kick advantage, 5-1.

The Black and Gold will return to action on Saturday when they host South Atlantic Conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
