Fleet Women Shut Out Lady Trojans

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Goals in each half from two different freshmen pushed Erskine past Anderson College 2-0 in a CVAC women's match Wednesday night at Huggins Field. The Fleet dominated the contest, getting off 23 shots to Anderson's 10. Freshman Jessica Henry took a cross from Virginia Walker and found the back of the Anderson net 15 seconds into the game. The Fleet's lead remained 1-0 for the remainder of the first half despite several easy chances. Anderson goalie Amanda English played well for the Lady Trojans, making 11 saves in the match. Erskine pushed the lead to 2-0 at 56:13. A different pair of freshmen hooked up this time. Anna Weldon hit a cross from the right corner. Samantha Saxon took the pass and buried the ball in the back of the net. Erskine goalkeeper Katy Jackson recorded the shutout by making five saves.
