Lady Trojans Fall To Mount Olive, 3-1

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Gina Dos Santos and Lyndsay Brennan each tallied a goal and an assist as Mount Olive defeated Anderson College 3-1 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's soccer Saturday at Trojan Field. The victory is Mount Olive's third in a row in conference play. Mount Olive (7-5 overall, 5-1 CVAC) broke a scoreless tie in the 19th minute when April Jacobs kept a ball in play on the end line and served to Dos Santos in the box. Dos Santos crossed the ball to Brennan, who found Painter for a header in front of the goal. The goal was the second in as many matches for Painter as the Trojans went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Mount Olive added to its lead six minutes into the second half as Erynn Marino served a ball over the top of the Anderson defense and Dos Santos lofted the ball over the goalkeeper for her conference-leading 12th goal of the season. Dos Santos is also the Trojans' career leading goal scorer. Anderson (2-7-1, 1-5-0) was held without a shot for the first 60 minutes of the match until Larissa Fedorowich captured a loose ball in the box and shot from 10 yards out, but Mount Olive goalkeeper Ali O'Steen made the save. Another shot by Fedorowich six minutes later missed just wide of the right post. Mount Olive extended its lead to 3-0 when Jacobs' corner kick led to a scurry in the box. Jessica Smoot's ball caromed off a defender and Brennan sent the loose ball in the back of the net. Anderson avoided the shutout when Fedorowich crossed to Nicole DuPree, who scored from 15 yards out. Anderson College Women's Soccer Statistics
