ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's basketball team wrapped up its regular-season home schedule by clinching at least a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title with a 56-40 win past Brevard Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (20-7, 14-3 SAC) won its seventh straight home win en route to claiming its second 20-win season in four seasons, while Brevard fell to 6-19 overall and 4-13 in the league with its fifth loss in the last six games.

Senior guard Alissa Diaz led the Trojans with 15 points and dished out three assists, while Sierrra Simpson added 12 points and shared game-high rebounding honors with eight.

Brevard's Tuccoa Brackett led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Asheley Watkins pulled down eight rebounds for the Tornados.

Trailing 11-6 at the 11:56 mark, the Trojans overcame their slow start with a 23-5 run over a nine-minute span in the first half, with Diaz connecting on a pair of free throws in the midst of the outburst to give Anderson its first lead of the night, at 15-14, with 7:45 remaining in the opening stanza.

The surge gave the Trojans their largest lead of the first half, at 29-16, and AU held a 30-21 halftime lead, while building a 49-27 advantage midway through the second half.

Anderson can claim the SAC regular-season title outright with a win at Mars Hill on Saturday, as AU looks for its 14th win in the last 16. The Trojans close out the regular season at Mars Hill, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. Anderson outlasted the Lions, 76-68, in overtime earlier this season at the Abney Center.
