Palmetto State Duo Signs with Women’s Basketball

ANDERSON, S.C. - A pair of in-state players have signed national letters of intent to play women's hoops at Anderson University next season.

Natalie Henderson, a 6-foot-3 post player from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C., and Nakia Young, a 5-foot-6 guard from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, S.C., will suit up for the Gold and Black, beginning this fall.

Henderson, an AAU teammate of earlier signee Bailey Sims, averaged seven points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and three steals as a senior for Coach John Bramlett's Trojans last season.

"Natalie will add depth to the post position," said former Anderson head coach Jim Brunelli. "She will bring the ability to run the floor well and score on and around the block. Her defense will also help the team."

Young, who notched more than 1,000 points during her career, was a prep teammate of signee Alexis Dillard at Wade Hampton and averaged 15 points, eight assists, five steals and three rebounds last season for the Generals.

"Nakia is a special player that will be exciting to watch," added Brrunelli. "She has the ability to score in many different ways. Her ability to play defense as a lockdown-type defender will be needed as well."

They join a trio of talented players who inked with the Trojans during the early signing period, including Sims, Dillard and Heather Jankowy.

Anderson is slated to open the 2013-14 campaign on the road versus Lander and USC Aiken in a challenging regional classic, hosted by the Pacers in Aiken.
