INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Anderson women's basketball team is ranked third in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's second Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday.
Anderson (19-7), which won two road contests last week clinched at least a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season championship with its win over Brevard tonight, is one of four teams from the SAC in the rankings, along with Lenoir-Rhyne (4th), Catawba (9th) and Newberry (10th) and
Clayton State (25-0), which is ranked first in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll, held on to the top spot in the Southeast Region rankings and is joined by 21st-ranked USC Aiken (19-5) and Augusta State (18-5) from the Peach Belt Conference. The Pacers slipped from third a week ago to fifth on this week's regional list, while ASU remained in the eighth slot.
No. 9 Limestone (21-2) heads three Conference Carolinas' teams in the rankings at second, with Barton (18-6) at sixth and Pfeiffer (19-5) at seventh.
The third regional ranking is scheduled to be released next Wednesday, March 6, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 10.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
