Diaz Named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson University senior guard Alissa Diaz has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

"I am excited that her hard work has paid off and she is getting recognized by the conference," said Anderson head coach Jim Brunelli. "We are proud of her and thrilled for the recognition."

Diaz tossed in a season-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting in just 23 minutes of action in the Trojans' decisive 73-52 win past Peach Belt opponent Georgia College last Saturday.

The Coral Springs, Fla., native led Anderson to its fourth consecutive win, as the Trojans, at 6-3, are off to their best start since the 2007-08 season. While shooting 75 percent from the floor, Diaz added a pair of assists, two rebounds and a steal as AU defeated the Bobcats for just the second time in seven attempts.

Diaz is 11th on Anderson's all-time scoring list and needs just 81 points to reach the prestigious 1,000-career point plateau. She leads the Trojans with her 15.6 points per game and ranks fourth in the SAC.

The Trojans visit Winston-Salem State on Wednesday, then travel to third-ranked USC Aiken on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
