Lady Trojans Beat Coker For Sixth Straight Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Leann Segers came off the bench to score 23 points and lead Anderson College to an 86-67 victory over Coker in a CVAC game Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Anderson improves to 18-6 overall, 13-4 in the CVAC, and locks up one of the top four spots in the upcoming CVAC Tournament. The victory also marks the first time in the history of the four-year program that the Lady Trojans have won more than 17 games in a single season. The loss drops Coker to 15-9, 11-6. Segers, a sophomore from Hartwell, Ga., was 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the arc. The Anderson bench outscored the Coker bench, 42-16. The game was back and forth in the first half but eight turnovers by Coker in the first half helped Anderson build a 41-31 halftime lead. The biggest shot of the game for Segers came with seven minutes remaining when she canned a 3-point goal to help stop a Coker rally. Decole Shoemate finished with 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Lady Trojans, and guard LaShonda Childs tallied 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Coker was led by Shamae Hemingway with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Selena Davis tallied 14 points and eight boards. Tara Nelson contributed 13 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Justina Dakins added four points, five rebounds, and two assists. Anderson shot 46 percent from the field to 36 percent for Coker.
