ANDERSON, S.C. - Erskine outscored Anderson from the 3-point line 48-15 on its way to an 88-76 upset of Anderson in overtime Thursday night at the Abney Center. Erskine, 9-10 overall and 5-7 in the CVAC, made 16-of-43 shots from behind the arc. Anita Owens, who made 9 of 16 from 3-point range, led all scorers with 31 points. Melissa Woods added 23, Lisa Jackson chipped in 17, and Brittany Alexander added 10 for the Flying Fleet. Woods also had 12 assists, 10 rebounds, and five steals. Anderson, 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the CVAC, lost its third straight to Erskine, its second straight overall, and its first home game this season. LaShonda Chiles was AC's leading scorer with 26 points. She was followed by Stephanie Ponds with 13, Shemika Reed with 11, and Decole Shoemate with 10. Anderson trailed the first 12 minutes of the game before putting together a 10-5 run for a 37-32 halftime lead. A three-point play by Shemika Reed with 16:12 remaining gave the Lady Trojans a 49-38 lead. But AC could not pull away. Erskine rallied behind Woods, who converted a four-point play with 5:35 remaining to tie the game at 59. Three-point goals by Woods at 4:18 and Owens at 3:35 gave Erskine a 67-63 lead. But Ponds scored two buckets in the final 1:21 to tie the game at 67. After getting a stop, AC had a chance to win the game in regulation but could not cash in. Erskine never trailed in the overtime period. A layup by Alexander, a 3-point goal by Owens and two free throws by Jackson put Erskine up 74-68 with 3:08 remaining. Anderson got no closer than four points the rest of the way. Both teams shot 36 percent for the game, but Anderson managed just 31 percent in the second half. The difference was behind the arc. Anderson took one more field goal attempt than Erskine and both teams made 28 field goals, but the Flying Fleet made 11 more 3-point goals.
