Segers Tallies 33 To Lead AC Past Pfeiffer

ANDERSON, S.C. - Leann Segers scored 33 points to lead Anderson College to a 100-78 victory over Pfeiffer in a women's CVAC game Monday night at the Abney Center. The Lady Trojans, 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the CVAC, won their sixth straight and their ninth in their last 10 outings. They also reached 100 points for the second time this season. They have scored 90 or more points five times this season. The six-game winning streak equals AC's longest streak of the direction of head coach Kevin Pederson. Segers, a sophomore from Hartwell, Ga., was 13-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from 3-point range. She also had six assists and three steals. Deidra Langston, a freshman from Gainesville, Ga., scored a career-high 19 points and Stephanie Ponds added 15 for AC. Pfeiffer, 5-8 and 1-5, was led by Jenny Volpicelli with 19 points and Sarah Reese with 18 points. Clinging to a 21-20 lead with 9:03 remaining in the first half, AC went on a 21-7 run for a 42-27 halftime lead. Langston capped the run with three field goals in the final 2:05. In the second half, the Falcons got as close as seven three times before the Lady Trojans pulled away again. In the final 10:25, AC scored 36 points to reach the century mark. Anderson shot 50 percent from the field to 42 percent for Pfeiffer. The boards were even at 45 for each team. Langston and Volpicelli both grabbed 11 rebounds apiece.
