Lady Trojans Upset CVAC Leader Barton

ANDERSON, S.C. - LaShonda Chiles scored a career-high 30 points to lead Anderson College to an 83-71 upset of CVAC leader Barton College Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 15-6 overall and 10-4 in the CVAC, never trailed in the game. The Lady Trojans led by five - 40-35 - at the half and by as many as 20 - 76-56 - in the second half. The victory marked the second straight season that Anderson has knocked off the CVAC leader at home. The Lady Trojans are now 7-1 at home this season. It was a sloppy game from start to finish. The two teams combined for 61 turnovers - 33 by Barton - and 50 personal fouls. Two Barton players - KeeKee Gorham and Kelly Lamotta - fouled out and AC finished the game with four players with four fouls. Chiles, who scored 28 in Thursday night's victory at Pfeiffer, was 11-for-19 from the field and 3-for-5 from behind the arc. Shemika Reed and Deanna Thompson added 10 points apiece for Anderson. Thompson also had a game-high 11 rebounds and four assists, while Reed had eight rebounds and four assists. Barton, the No. 4 team in the Division II East Region poll, was led by Lisa Halttunen with 22 points, Keauna Vinson with 15 points, and Trisha Vann with 14 points. Lamotta, the leading scorer in the CVAC, scored just seven points for the Lady Bulldogs before fouling out in the second half. Anderson led 40-35 at the break after an erratic first half. In the first half, both teams suffered 18 turnovers and they combined for 24 personal fouls - 13 on AC and 11 on Barton. Chiles scored 20 of her points in the first half. Anderson shot 51 percent from the field while limiting Barton to 39 percent. Barton won the boards, 44-40. Lamotta and Vinson had nine rebounds apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.
