Hartsville, S.C.- Anderson University softball dropped its final regular season doubleheader against South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker losing game one, 6-5 (8 innings), and losing the nightcap, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Saleeby Stokes Field.
With the losses, Anderson falls to 28-20 overall and 10-10 in conference action while the Cobras move to 30-16 overall and 9-10 in SAC play.
Game One Coker 6 Anderson 5 (8 innings)
Coker scored an early run in the bottom half of the first inning carrying a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning. Anderson evened the score using a Cobra and a RBI ground out by freshman Morgan Charter.
The Trojans used the two homeruns in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Senior Joshlyn Martin hit a solo shot to center while senior Breanna Hagerty hit a three run bomb to left. The lead was short lived with the Cobras scoring four runs in the bottom half to knot the game up 5-5.
Anderson could not take advantage of bases loaded and one-out in the top of the eighth, stranding three runners. Coker successfully bunted over the placed runner to third and the next batter hit a sacrifice fly to end the game.
Sophomore Kayla Pepper (13-12) was tagged with the loss giving up six hits.
Game Two Coker 8 Anderson 4
Anderson and Coker traded runs in the first and second inning before the Cobras broke open the game with a three-run third, 4-1.
The Trojans didn't go away quietly, scoring one run in the fifth and two in the sixth. However the Cobras answered each attack with two runs of their own to claim the 8-4 victory.
Senior Kasey Grant went 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.
Sophomore Harlie Duncan (15-8) surrendered 13 hits, walking three and striking out two.
Anderson is currently in sixth place in the SAC standings and will sit and wait for all SAC members games to be complete to see what their final seed will be for the upcoming SAC Tournament. The Tournament will begin on April 26 in Salisbury, N.C. (hosted by Catawba).
