Bats Come Alive to Help Trojans Earn Sweep over Mars Hill

Anderson, S.C.- Anderson University softball pounded out 17 hits while allowing just five in a doubleheader sweep over South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill winning game one, 9-1 (5 innings), and taking game two, 3-1, on Thursday at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson improves to 25-17 overall and 7-7 in conference action while the Lions fall to 21-16 overall and 5-9 in SAC play.

On the day, senior Joshlyn Martin was 3-for-5 with two RBI while junior Mattie Hamilton batted 4-for-7 with four RBI. Freshman Kayson Boatner went 4-for-6 with an RBI with sophomore Abigail Webb batting 2-for-3 in game one of the doubleheader.

In game one, the Trojans took and early 2-0 lead while using a six-run fifth inning to end the game using the mercy rule, 9-1.

Sophomore Kayla Duncan (11-11) gave up just two hits to the 17 batters she faced.

Anderson scored lone runs in the first, third and fourth to secure the 3-1 win.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (14-6) pitched a three-hitter while walking three and striking out four.

Anderson remains home to finish up its regular season home slate when it welcome South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.
