Softball Splits with Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA.- The Anderson University softball team dropped the first game of the nonconference doubleheader against Augusta, 9-3, while bouncing back in game 2 defeating the Jaguars, 11-7, on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

With the split, Anderson moves to 5-3 overall while Augusta posts a 1-3 record on the season.

Game 1- Augusta 9   Anderson 3

The Trojans scattered three runs over the game scoring lone runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Augusta broke open a 2-2 tie in the bottom half of the fifth inning using a double and homerun to push its lead to 4-2. The Jaguars added five runs in the sixth inning to give themselves a comfortable 9-2 lead. Anderson produced a run in the seventh inning using three singles running out of outs to mount a comeback.

Notables

Senior Joshlyn Martin batted 2-for-3 with an RBI while junior Meghan Majeski batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (2-2) suffered the loss giving up 12 hits and nine earned runs.

Key Stats 

-The Jaguars outhit the Trojans 12-6.

- Augusta hit a double, two triples and three homeruns.

- Anderson left nine runners on base.

 

Game Two- Anderson 11   Augusta 7

Anderson scored three runs in the first inning on a two-run homerun by freshman Kayson Boatner. The Jaguars answered back by scoring five runs of their own in the bottom half of the first to take a 5-3 lead.

The Black and Gold three runs over the next two innings to take back the lead at, 6-5.

Anderson and Augusta would trade off a two run fourth inning before the Trojans put the game away with a three-run sixth.

Notables

Boatner batted 4-for-5 with two homeruns and three RBI while freshman Josie NesSmith going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Sydney Belcher drilled to doubles on a 2-for-3 game driving in three RBI with Martin recording a double, a single, two RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (3-1) picked up her third win of the season giving up eight hits while striking out four.

Key Stats

-The Trojans out hit Augusta 16-8.

-After giving up four hits in the first inning, Duncan held the Jaguars to just four hits over the next six innings of play.

-Anderson committed three errors.

 Anderson returns home to face nonconference opponent Lees-McRae. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
