Softball Splits with Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Anderson University softball split a nonconference doubleheader road contest against Winston-Salem State winning game one, 9-3, while dropping game two, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at Twin City Field.

With the split, the Trojans move to 21-15 overall while the Rams move to 22-4 overall.

The Black and Gold used a six-run sixth inning to break open the game (3-2 WSSU) adding one more run in the seventh to set the final score at 9-3.

Notables

Juniors Mattie Hamilton and Breanna Hagerty each picked up two hits. Hamilton drilled two doubles while Hagerty belted a solo homerun. Freshman Kayson Boatner collected her 11th homerun of the season while senior Kasey Grant hit a triple and scored a run for the Trojans. Pinch hitters Sydney Belcher and Mackenzie Haver each recorded a hit and a run driven in.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (13-4) earned the win giving up five hits while striking out four batters.

Game Two    Winston-Salem 5     Anderson 4

The Trojans relinquished a 4-3 lead giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to fall to the Rams for the first time in the series history.

Notables

Senior Joshlyn Martin and junior Meghan Majeski each went 2-for-4 each crossing the plate once for the Black and Gold.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (8-11) was tagged with the loss after giving up nine hits and five earned runs. Pepper struck out eight while walking three batters.

Anderson return home to host nonconference opponent Erskine on Tuesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4 pm.
