Trojans Drop Two on the Road at Coker

Hartsville, S.C.- Anderson University softball dropped its final regular season doubleheader against South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker losing game one, 6-5 (8 innings), and losing the nightcap, 8-4, on Saturday afternoon at Saleeby Stokes Field.

With the losses, Anderson falls to 28-20 overall and 10-10 in conference action while the Cobras move to 30-16 overall and 9-10 in SAC play.

Game One    Coker 6        Anderson 5 (8 innings)

Coker scored an early run in the bottom half of the first inning carrying a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning. Anderson evened the score using a Cobra and a RBI ground out by freshman Morgan Charter.

The Trojans used the two homeruns in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Senior Joshlyn Martin hit a solo shot to center while senior Breanna Hagerty hit a three run bomb to left. The lead was short lived with the Cobras scoring four runs in the bottom half to knot the game up 5-5.

Anderson could not take advantage of bases loaded and one-out in the top of the eighth, stranding three runners. Coker successfully bunted over the placed runner to third and the next batter hit a sacrifice fly to end the game.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (13-12) was tagged with the loss giving up six hits.

Game Two    Coker 8       Anderson 4

Anderson and Coker traded runs in the first and second inning before the Cobras broke open the game with a three-run third, 4-1.
