Trojans Come Up Short Against Indians, 10-7

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Zach Evans' three-run home run in the eighth inning proved to be the game winner as Catawba defeated Anderson 10-7 in a non-conference game at Anderson Memorial Stadium Wednesday night. The loss drops the Trojans to 20-26 overall, while the Indians improve to 27-12 overall. Catawba scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by David Thomas, but the Trojans responded with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning. The Indians answered with a solo home run by Craig Lyerly to regain the lead at 3-2 and then continued to add seven runs over the next seven innings to take a 10-2 lead. But the Trojans rallied with five runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-run triple by John Mac White. However, the Trojans' rally fell short with the tying run at the plate. Kaleb Davis took the loss for the Trojans. Lee Dupre earned the win for the Indians. B.J. Smith led the Trojans offensively by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. The Indians were led by Lyerly, who was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and by Evans, who was 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. The Trojans will take on CVAC opponent Coker College Friday at noon.
