Upstate Spoils Anderson's Senior Night

ANDERSON, S.C. -- USC Upstate spoiled Anderson's senior night when Andrew Runion scored on a walk in to the top of the tenth inning to give the Spartans an 8-7 victory Tuesday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Upstate scored three runs in the first three innings, and a single run in the third when Runion blasted a solo home run to take 4-0 lead. The Trojans rallied in the fifth with three runs highlighted by a two-run double by Jessie Whiteside. In the sixth, the Trojans tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Lewis that scored Josh Harrison. Upstate scored one run in the top of the seventh and another two more runs in the top of the ninth on a double and an error. But the Trojans answered with in the bottom of the ninth when Harrison hit a two-run single. On the next pitch, the Trojans tied the game when Nick Easterlin scored on a wild pitch. Upstate managed to score the game winning run in the tenth on two walks and two hits. Brandon Sheriff was saddled with the loss for the Trojans, while Teddy Fallon earned the win for Upstate. Anderson was led offensively by Lewis, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and by Harrison who was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Eric Guillen was 3-for-6 with 2 RBI and Runion was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Spartans. Anderson out hit Upstate 13-9, but the Trojans left 15 runners on base.
