ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Anderson University women's tennis team gave a valiant effort before falling to the #1 seeded Wingate Bulldogs; 5-3 on Friday afternoon in the South Atlantic Conference semifinal match at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

Anderson slides to 18-5 overall.

The Trojans jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after the doubles portion winning the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. The Black and Gold tandem of Ivey Welborn and Jennifer Holcombe (AU) defeated Layla Tanik and Claudia De Andreis (WU), 8-3 to claim the first point of the match. The Bulldogs evened the match winning at the No. 2 position. Anderson answered back at the No. 1 slot with Laura Dean and Rebecca Bruning (AU) winning over Oroma Womeodu and Maria Garcia (WU), 8-4.

In singles action, Bruning (AU) defeated Andrea Ternera (WU) 6-0, 6-2 winning the only singles match for the Trojans.
