ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's tennis opened its 2016-17 South Atlantic Conference play with a win, 9-0, over Catawba on Thursday afternoon at the AU Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in SAC play while Catawba drops its first match of the year moving to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Anderson took an early 3-0 after the doubles portion and continued to move forward from there. Playing in the No. 1 slot, Rebecca Bruning and Laura Dean (AU) defeated Erisa Onchi and Sophie Hirsch (CAT), 8-2 while Delaney Wiggins and Jacqueline Olivia (AU) win over Kristen Rocko and Olivia Wooldridge (CAT), 8-3 in the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 spot, Ivey Welborn and Jennifer Holcombe (AU) come back and defeat Maddy Henderson and Marina Geremias (CATW) 9-7.

In the singles portion, Anderson used its momentum gained during singles play to win all six matches in straights sets.

The Trojans are back in action on Saturday when they host non-conference opponent Young Harris. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
