Trojan Trio Earns Postseason All-SAC Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. –Anderson University women's tennis trio of senior Rebecca Bruning, junior Ivey Welborn and sophomore Laura Dean were recognized by the South Atlantic Conference, as Bruning and Dean were picked to the All-SAC First Team singles and doubles, while Welborn earned All-SAC Second Team honors in singles action, announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Bruning claims her seventh postseason all-conference accolade after landing on the All-SAC Second Team singles list in 2014, the All-SAC singles and doubles First Team list following the 2015 season and earning All-SAC Second Team singles and doubles a season ago.

The Athens, Ga. native held a 2017 singles record of (18-2, 9-1 SAC) pushing her overall career singles record to a remarkable (63-13, 36-5 SAC) and a 2017 doubles record of (19-2, 10-1 SAC) posting a doubles career record of (57-23, 31-12 SAC). Bruning is currently the No. 19th ranked women's tennis player in the Southeast Region while holding a No. 7 doubles ranking.

Dean excelled at the No. 1 singles flight for the Trojans while partnering with Bruning at No. 1 doubles. The native of Georgetown, S.C. claimed a record of (14-6, 8-2 SAC) while being ranked as the No. 20th women's singles player in the Southeast Region. Dean also was named AstroTurf SAC Player of the week in late March followed by teammate Bruning the next week.

In doubles action, Dean's play helped the No. 7th ranked team in the Southeast Region to a record of (19-2, 10-1 SAC) to garner First Team accolades with doubles partner Bruning.

Welborn played a huge roll in the Black and Gold's successful season posting a record of (15-3, 9-2 SAC) at the No. 3 position in singles action earning her All-SAC Second Team. The Anderson, S.C. native also posted a doubles record of (16-2, 10-1 SAC) which was vital to the Trojans finishing the regular season tied for second. During her career, Welborn has also played in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots posting a career singles record of (32-20, 17-12 SAC).

Anderson travels to Rock Hill, S.C. on Thursday to begin first round action of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The #4 seeded Trojans are set to square off against #5 Carson-Newman. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
