SPARTANGURG, S.C. – Coming off of a disappointing 2015-16 season, Anderson University women's tennis opened its 2016-17 season with a convincing 9-0 win over Converse Wednesday afternoon at the Converse Tennis Complex.

Despite starting many new faces, the Trojans made quick work of the Valkyries to start the year off on the right foot.

Anderson took an early 3-0 after the doubles portion and never looked back. Sophomore Laura Dean and Senior Rebecca Bruning defeated Alex Schlesener and Morgan Trask, 8-1 at the No. 1 position. Newcomers, Jacqueline Olivia and Delaney Wiggins won 8-5 over Steffi Kong and Taylor Parrott at the No. 2 slot while sophomore pairing Jennifer Holcombe and Elizabeth Beachy quickly defeated Mary Kaitlyn Flynn and Carlie Peeler, 8-1 at the No. 3 spot.

In the singles portion, Anderson won in straight sets with the Trojans outscoring Converse 72-14 to move to 1-0 on the young season.

The Trojans are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Brevard. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
