Deadwyler Scores Golden Goal to Down Newberry

Anderson, S.C. – The Anderson University women's soccer team defeated South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry, 1-0, in overtime on Thursday evening at Trojan Stadium. Anderson improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in SAC play, while Newberry slides to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

"We had a great team win tonight that was well deserved," said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "I am proud of the fight displayed and support the girls showed for each other."

"The team executed key parts of the game plan well and came away with a result," expressed Jacobs.

"We will look to carry the momentum into our next game at Limestone," added Jacobs.

After a scoreless 90 minutes of action, freshman Emma Deadwyler found the back of the net after an assist by senior Havon Ashy to end the match at the 91:09 mark. Deadwyler's goal was her first career strike.

The Trojans and Wolves both took 11 shots for the match, with AU winning the corner kick advantage 8-4.

Anderson keeper Madison Paige (1-2) recorded six saves on the night, while Newberry's Delaney Hood recorded five stops.
