Women’s Soccer Falls to Queens; 3-1

Anderson, S.C. – The Anderson University women's soccer team fell to South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens, 3-1, in its opening home conference match on Thursday evening at Trojan Stadium. Anderson slips to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in SAC play, while Queens improves to 1-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

"I thought tonight was an evenly fought game that unfortunately didn't go our way, said head coach Sarah Jacobs. "We created opportunities and are close to putting the pieces together. We are looking forward to the challenge of earning a result against Newberry next week."

Anderson struck first in the fifth minute of action on a perfectly executed corner kick. Senior Havon Ashy connected with Sophomore Spencer Hemming to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Queens scored three unanswered goals in the second half to set the final score, 3-1. The Trojans had several scoring opportunities with the best two chances coming in the 73rd and 75th minute by Emma Deadwyler. However, two tremendous saves by preseason all-conference goalie Erica Turner secured the win for the Royals.

Anderson keeper Madison Paige (0-2) recorded three saves on the night, while Queens Turner was credited with six saves.

The Black and Gold remain at home to host SAC opponent Newberry on Thursday, March 4th. Kick-off is slated for 5 pm.
