Anderson, S.C. - Anderson University men's and women's soccer revised 2020-2021 schedule was approved by the South Atlantic Conference Presidents and Athletics Councils back in October.
Men's soccer finished 12-6-1 overall during the 2019 campaign with a second straight South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship match appearance. The Trojans won their last seven of eight regular season contests to secure a fifth-seed in the SAC tournament. Anderson defeated the fourth-seeded Pioneers and seventh-seeded Cobras before falling to the third-seeded Bulldogs of Wingate in the championship game.
Women's soccer finished 7-9 overall during the 2019 campaign. Anderson won three matches in the opening month, including two wins over Peach Belt Conference opponents. The Black and Gold defeated four teams in October, including the eventual SAC Tournament Champion. After advancing to post season play, AU dropped a tough 2-0 decision in the SAC quarterfinals to second-seeded Wingate.
The SAC men's soccer and women's soccer teams will be divided into three pods consisting of four teams each for a total of six conference games with the option to play two non-conference opponents. Each team will play the other three teams in their pod twice (once at home and once on the road) with the top teams advancing to a postseason tournament. These pods are divided up geographically in order to reduce travel and missed class time for the student-athletes. The soccer season will be played from the middle of February to the middle of April.
The Trojans will square off with Newberry, Queens and Limestone for their SAC play beginning on Feb. 25th. Both programs have chosen different nonconference contests and will play those matchups beginning Feb. 11th.
The fall sports seasons will not interfere with student-athlete's eligibility, as the NCAA issued a blanket waiver allowing all 2020 fall sports student-athletes to retain their year of eligibility, regardless of the number of contests competed in during the 2020-21 season.
