Thrasher's Blasts Lead Anderson To Split

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kayla Thrasher hit two two-run homers to lead Anderson University to a 12-4 six-inning victory over Brevard College in the second game and a split of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. Thrasher, a sophomore from Pendleton, S.C., now has six home runs this season, which ties the Anderson single-season record. In the first game, Stef Giannetti pitched a three-hit shutout and C.J. Jascur and Amber Clontz drove in two runs apiece to lead Brevard to a 6-0 victory. With the split, Anderson is now 8-10. After getting shutout in the first game and running its scoreless streak to 14 innings, Anderson scored two runs in the first, five in the second, and three in the third to take a 7-4 lead. Thrasher's first homer came with two outs in the first inning and her second capped off Anderson's five-run second. Anderson benefited from three Brevard errors in the second and two more in the third. After the Tornados had four hits and scored three times in the third, Anderson pitcher Fallon Downs settled down and allowed just one hit in the final three innings to pick up her second victory of the season. Anderson ended the game in the sixth on back-to-back one-out singles by Thrasher and Allison Cromer. Cromer's hit was misplayed in right field, allowing both Thrasher and Cromer to score with the game-ending runs. Giannetti allowed just three singles in the first game and retired Anderson in order in the final four innings. She struck out six, walked two, and allowed just one runner to reach third base. After scoring an unearned run in the third, Brevard increased its lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run homer by Clontz. A double by Heidi Morgan and two wild pitches gave the Tornados a 4-0 lead in the sixth. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
