ANDERSON, S.C. - Kayla Thrasher hit her ninth home run of the season and Stephanie Griffis allowed just one earned run to lead Anderson University to a 4-2 victory in the second game and split of a CVAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Pfeiffer scored three runs with two outs in the top seventh inning and then held on for an 8-7 victory. After pulling out the first game, Pfeiffer scored an unearned run in the first inning of the second game. But Anderson answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on Thrasher's two-out blast over the left field fence. Anderson, 17-20 overall and 9-5 in the CVAC, added a single run in the third on a one-out double by Kayla Williams and an RBI single by Melissa Waters and a single run in the fifth on an infield error and a triple by Allison Cromer. Cromer, who was 2-for-2, was the lone Anderson player with more than one hit in the second game. Griffis scattered seven hits, struck out two, and walked just one to outduel Pfeiffer's Dacia Ijames. Both teams finished the second game with seven hits apiece. In the first game, Pfeiffer trailed 7-5 entering the seventh inning before putting together a three-run rally to take an 8-7 lead. Jessica Culler and Tiffany Allen both had run-scoring singles after two outs were recorded in the inning. Pfeiffer, 12-19 and 6-4, jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Falcons scored three runs in the second and two runs in the fourth. Amanda Beck and Brittany Cowart both had RBI singles in the second, and Erin Furness had a two-out, two-run single in the fourth. Furness finished the first game 4-for-4. Anderson scored all seven of its runs in the fourth. The Lady Trojans opened the inning with four straight hits and had eight hits in the inning, including four doubles and a triple. Cromer had a two-run single; Waters, Griffis, and Ellen Steele all had RBI doubles, and Melissa Carmichael had an RBI single. Fallon Downs had a double and triple and scored one run in the inning. Anderson finished the first game with 13 hits to 10 for Pfeiffer. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
