ANDERSON, S.C. - Megan Clark provided a two-run single to cap off a four-run sixth inning and give Presbyterian College a 9-8 victory over Anderson University in the second game and a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Presbyterian jumped out to a 7-0 lead through three and a half innings then held off an Anderson rally for an 8-7 victory. The sweep improves Presbyterian to 5-3, while Anderson falls to 5-7. Anderson jumped on Presbyterian starter Jessica Flanagan early in the second game. The Lady Trojans scored four runs in the first and three in the second to take a 7-3 lead. Kayla Williams hit pair of two-run homers in the first two innings for Anderson, and Kayla Thrasher hit a solo home run in the second. Flanagan was lifted after 1 2/3 innings. Amber Patterson replaced Flanagan and limited Anderson to two hits and one run the rest of the way. Trailing 7-3, Presbyterian started its rally with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to cut the Anderson lead to 7-5. After Anderson scored a single run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk by Thrasher, Presbyterian scored four runs in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead. With one out, Patterson started the rally with a triple. An infield error, singles by Jessica Peterka and Ashley Ford, an outfield error, and Clark's single gave the Blue Hose in the lead. Ford and Clark led the Blue Hose offense in the second game with three hits apiece. The Blue Hose roughed up Anderson starter Ashley Rogers in the first game. Presbyterian used three walks, a hit batter, and a single by Peterka to score two runs in the first. Presbyterian added four more runs in the third on a three-run homer by Clark and a sacrifice fly by Kellyn Henderson. Rogers walked three, hit three, and allowed four hits in 3 1/3 innings. She was replaced by Stephanie Griffis, who allowed four hits and one run in the final 3 2/3 innings. Trailing 7-0, Anderson scored a single run in the fourth on a homer by Thrasher. The Lady Trojans added three more runs in the fifth on a home run by Williams, a walk, an RBI double by Melissa Waters, and an infield error. After Presbyterian added a single run in the sixth, Anderson tallied three more runs in the home half of the sixth on singles by Griffis and Allison Cromer, a two-run double by Maranda Sialmas, and a throwing error. Presbyterian used four pitchers in the first game. Starter Samantha Slater allowed just three hits and one run in four innings before she was lifted. Presbyterian finished the doubleheader with 19 hits to Anderson's 17. Anderson set the school single-season records for home runs during the doubleheader. Anderson has 13 home runs in 12 games this season. The previous school record for homers in a season was nine. Thrasher and Williams now have four home runs apiece, one off the school single-season record. 2006 Anderson University Softball Statistics
