ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson College racked up nine extra base hits in two games on its way to a doubleheader sweep of St. Andrews Presbyterian Sunday afternoon at Smethers Field. Anderson finishes the regular season 20-36 overall and 13-7 in the CVAC. Entering this weekend's CVAC Tournament at Florence, S.C., the Lady Trojans have won four straight and five of their last six. In the first game, Anderson had nine hits, including five doubles and a triple, on its way to a 5-2 victory. After allowing the Knights (10-29, 5-15) two runs and three hits in the top of the first, Ashley Rogers settled down and blanked St. Andrews in the final six innings. Rogers, a sophomore from Liberty, scattered seven hits, struck out five, and walked three to record her 10th victory of the season. A two-run double by Rachelle Lawrence and a sacrifice fly by Carolyn Smith highlighted Anderson's four-run third innning. The Lady Trojans added one more run in the fifth on a lead-off single by Cindy Crosby and a one-out double by Lawrence. Lawrence, Crosby, and Lindsay Crump all had two hits apiece for Anderson in the first game. In the second game, Anderson got a three-run homer from Kristen Price in the bottom of the first and pitcher Stephanie Griffis limited St. Andrews to six hits to lead the Lady Trojans to a 4-2. Price's two-out homer over the left field fence was her sixth of the season and increased her RBI total to 32. The Knights scratched out single runs in the third and sixth to cut the Anderson lead to 3-2. In the third, Erin Haugen walked, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Veronica Bolus. In the sixth, Kristal Shelton doubled, moved to second on a fly out, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bethany Smith. Anderson scored an insurance run in the sixth. Smith, in her final plate appearance at home, hit the top of the center field fence for a double. After Fallon Downs walked, Melissa Waters put down a sacrifice bunt to move pinch-runner Melissa Carmichael and Downs to second and third. Carmichael scored on a single by Crump. Griffis, a sophomore from Pendleton, struck out two and walked one to earn her third straight victory. The doubleheader was the final home appearance for three Anderson seniors -- Smith (Mauldin), Crosby (Walterboro), and Crump (Chapin). All three had productive days. In the two games, Smith was 2-for-5 with one RBI; Crosby was 3-for-7 with one RBI and three runs scored; and Crump was 3-for-6 with one RBI, one run scored, and one outfield assist.
