11 Trojans Record Personal Bests to Close Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Anderson men and women's track teams closed out competition at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem late Saturday afternoon with eleven Trojans recording personal bests in their respective events.

"We acheived numerous personal bests this weekend and one new school record," said head coach Kevin Eagle. "Both teams will look to build on what they did the last two days while competing against some of the top athletes in the region."

Among these noteworthy performances was sophomore Emma Whitaker (Inman, S.C.) running 3:03.49 in the 1000-meter race, breaking the Anderson University record by three full seconds. Whitaker's time also stands at No. 10 overall in NCAA DII competition this year.

The weekend also saw Trojan freshman Rylie Jenkins (Loranger, La.) break her own AU record in the women's pole vault, tallying a 3.35-meter jump.

On the men's side, reigning South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year Elliot Dotson (Greenville, S.C.) competed in the elite 800-meter race, running for a 1:53.13 personal record. Dotson's time is the fastest by a SAC athlete this year.

"With 50+ athletes competing, you're going to have some good performances and obviously some bad performances," said Eagle. "We just have to focus on where we are now and work on getting to where we want to be in four weeks."

With less than one month before SAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 24-25), the Trojans look to build on this weekend's performances this Friday (Feb. 2) at the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
