Princiotto, Dotson and Softball Named Jimmy John's Players of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Baseball's Trey Princiotto, Track and Field's Elliot Dotson, and Anderson's softball team have earned Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week honors.

Princiotto, a graduate student from Horseheads, N.Y., provided the Trojans with a stellar outing on the mound in their Friday night win over the Cavaliers of UVA Wise. The right-hander tossed eight and two-thirds innings while allowing just five hits and two runs. Along the way he only walked one batter while recording 11 strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season.

A sophomore from Greenville, S.C. and South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, Dotson competed in the men's mile race at the App State Open over the weekend, breaking the school record with a 4:01.76 race. The time is fastest across NCAA Division II this season and ranks fourth all-time for the outdoor mile. Dotson's converted 1500-meter time of 3:43.84 leads the SAC and ranks ninth in NCAA, securing his spot in the event at the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.

Anderson Softball earned a spot in the South Atlantic Conference Championship Series after defeating Carson-Newman twice in the SAC Championship opening round this past weekend at the AU Softball Complex.

The Trojans opened play with a, 4-2, win over Lincoln Memorial before being sent to the loser's bracket by a, 5-4, defeat at the hands of Carson-Newman. The Black and Gold then faced Lincoln Memorial in an elimination game with AU defeating the Railsplitters, 6-2, advancing to face the Eagles again.

Anderson, in a must-win situation, defeated the Eagles, 4-1, to move to the winner-take-all game. The Trojans exploded for 16 runs on 22 hits to advance to the Championship Series by defeating Carson-Newman for the second time, 16-0, winning bracket two.

The Black and Gold will now host the bracket one winner, No. 4 Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday (2 pm) and Saturday (2pm) in a two-out of-three series for the title of SAC Tournament Winner and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Each week, student-athletes are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
