Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Newberry 20-8

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team came up short in a road contest at Newberry on Wednesday (Apr. 7) by a score of 20-8.

The Trojans came into tonight's game off a tough loss to nationally ranked Limestone, losing 16-11 in a hard fought match. Anderson faced another tough challenge tonight in the Newberry Wolves, as they came into tonight with a 3-4 record within the SAC and 4-5 overall.

Isaiah Hines got things going for the Trojans early in the first period by scoring two goals. Garrett Hawkins kept the positive momentum going into the second period as he scored four of his five goals on the night, while also assisting on a goal scored by Ryley Zopfi to send the Trojans into halftime with a manageable 11-8 deficit. However, it was all Newberry in the second half as they scored nine unanswered goals to cruise to a 20-8 victory.

For Anderson, Cam Weeks was dominant in the faceoff once again, going 9-13 on his attempts. Hines led the team with six ground balls, while Sean Ring and Logan Trafton combined for 21 saves.

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Apr.10) as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Queens Royals. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00, with live coverage available at www.autrojans.com.
