Men's Lacrosse Falls to Wingate 20-8

WINGATE, N.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team dropped a South Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday (Mar. 13) against the Wingate University Bulldogs 20-8.

The Trojans came into Saturday's game off a 28-11 victory over Mars Hill the previous week. Freshman attacker Isaiah Hines was named the SAC Astroturf Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts, scoring eight goals last week in the wins over Mars Hill and Lincoln Memorial. Hines kept his great play going in the first period against Wingate with an early goal to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. For the entire game, he finished with three scores, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.

Wingate came firing back after the Trojans took a 2-0 advantage, scoring seven unanswered goals to end the period. In the second period, Garrett Hawkins and Logan Gaddis scored a pair of goals as the Bulldogs took a 9-4 lead into halftime. Wingate kept that lead for the remainder of the game thanks to a continued offensive attack, finishing the contest with 20 goals.

Rex Hardy, Beau Henson, and Kaleb West each scored for the Trojans in the second half. Cam Weeks was 22 for 32 on faceoff attempts, and Sean Ring finished the game with 12 saves.

"Tough game but a great learning experience for our team," said coach Albert Mitchell. "There were some positive takeaways from this loss that we can take with us going forward."

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 17) as they play host to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with live coverage available at www.autrojans.com.
