ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by senior Jake Miller's two-round 6-under-par 138, the Anderson University men's golf team is tied for fifth place following the first two rounds of the Sixth Annual North Georgia Fall Invitational Monday, which is being hosted by the Nighthawks on a 6,967 yard, par-72 Achasta Golf Club layout.
Clayton State leads the 54-hole event by seven strokes over second-place Carson-Newman, with Southern Wesleyan holding the third spot. Limestone is two shots further back in fourth place. Anderson, which is making its first-ever appearance in the tournament, posted a season-best 278 in the day's first round, but slipped into a tie for fifth place alongside North Greenville after notching a 294 in the second round.
Georgia College is alone in seventh place, while Young Harris - the defending champion – is deadlocked with West Georgia in eighth place. King, North Georgia, Lenoir-Rhyne, Newberry – which won back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017 – and Albany State round out the 14-team field.
Clayton State's Joseph Kim (64-67=131) holds a tenuous one-stroke lead over Carson-Newman's Tom Forster (67-65=132) in the chase for individual medalist honors, while King's Leonardo Rigamonti (66-68=134) is two shots further back in third place. Limestone's Walker Redmon (70-67=137) is in fourth place.
Miller fired a pair of season-low 69s on the day and is tied for fifth place, seven shots off the pace set by Kim. Freshman Reece Coleman (67-72=139) notched the Trojans' low round of the season in the first round and is tied for eighth, while junior Cal Brock (69-78=147) carded his best two-round effort of the fall and is in a four-way tie for 46th place.
Freshman Anthony Sutton carded a pair of 75s and is tied for 54th place entering Tuesday's third round, while classmate Caleb Henson (73-80=153) wrapped up the first two rounds in a tie for 68th.
The final round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
