ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by freshman Reece Coleman's 4-under-par 68, the Anderson University men's golf team is in first place following opening-round action at the AU Invitational Monday, which is being hosted at the 6,922 yard, par-72 Cobb's Glen Country Club layout.

"We are really excited to be leading," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "Reece [Coleman] and Anthony [Sutton] both shot under par. Senior Jake Miller shot even par and freshman Caleb Henson also played well in his first event. Hopefully we can follow today's round with another solid effort tomorrow."

Anderson leads the 36-hole event by four shots over longtime rival Erskine, while Southern Wesleyan is 11 strokes off the pace set by the Trojans. South Atlantic Conference-counterpart Catawba is in fourth place, three shots further back. Southern Wesleyan (B) holds the fifth slot, with Belmont Abbey in sixth place entering Tuesday's second round.

Belmont Abbey (B), Erskine (B), Spartanburg Methodist and Bob Jones University round out the 10-team field.

Coleman leads teammate Anthony Sutton (69) and Erskine's Alberto Avila (69) by one stroke entering Tuesday's final round, with Erskine B's Carson Green (70) alone in fourth place following Monday's first round. Catawba's Tanner Bibey (71) rounded out the quintet of players who posted below-par scores and is in fifth place.

Senior Jake Miller (72) is tied for sixth place, while freshman Caleb Henson carded a 1-over-par 73 and is in a three-way tie for 11th place. Senior Brady Cox fired a 6-over 78 and is tied for 28th. Junior Cal Brock (79) shares 33rd place, while senior Drake McAlister and junior Colt Martin are tied for 40th place after carding 83s on the day.

Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m.
