Colt Martin Named Third-Team Academic All-American

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's golfer Colt Martin has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced by the organization early Thursday afternoon.

Martin became the fourth Trojan student-athlete to garner national recognition during the 2018-19 seasons after Emily Conlin (Volleyball), Alexy Mollenhauer (Women's Basketball) and Kasey Grant (Softball) claimed the honor, as well.

Joining Martin from the South Atlantic Conference were Wingate's Niklas Martin, Giacomo Viazzo and Markus Furst, along with Carson-Newman's Paden Duke and Anthony Marcinelli. Lincoln Memorial's Evan Cory also earned national recognition.

The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The at-large program for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Martin, a rising junior on the men's golf team, posted a 78.14 unadjusted scoring average this past season and notched three top-30 finishes, including an eighth-place finish last September at the AU Invitational. He recorded a pair of rounds below par during the year, including a season-best 69 in October.

The Pendleton, S.C., native advanced to the national ballot after earning First Team Academic All-District honors last month. He is majoring in Business / Accounting and carries a 4.0 GPA.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Fifteen men and seven women are repeat performers on this year's at-large teams. Thirty-seven (22 women, 15 men) student-athletes on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large Teams have a 4.00 GPA. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Women's At-Large First Team had an overall 3.97 GPA, while the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men's At-Large First Team had an overall 3.96 GPA.

Two student-athletes earned Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large recognition for third time in their respective careers. On the men's side, St. Cloud State University senior wrestler Brett Velasquez repeats on the first team after gleaning second team honors following his sophomore year. For the women, University of Indianapolis senior golfer Katharina Keilich matches Velasquez with her third recognition. Keilich is a second team honoree this year.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
