ANDERSON, S.C. – Mariano Carpena of the Anderson University men's soccer team and Kennedy McGaha of the women's golf team have been selected as the Jimmy John's Athletes of the Week.
Carpena, a senior from Cali, Colombia, scored two goals on the week including the game-winning goal against No.22 Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Sept. 16). Mariano has been an anchor on the defensive end as well as the team's starting center back.
McGaha, a junior from Honea Path, S.C., led the No. 7 Anderson Trojans to a season opening victory at the Meredith Insurance Fall Kickoff. McGaha took home medalist honors with a seven-under-par score of 209 for the three rounds (68, 70, 71). She finished the tournament with a 69.6 stroke average.
Each week, two student-athletes are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
