NCAA Division II Celebrates 50th Anniversary

ANDERSON, S.C. – NCAA Division II is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, with the celebration lasting through the 2023-24 academic year
and culminating with the 2024 Division II Baseball Championship finals.

Established on Aug. 6, 1973, the 50th anniversary of NCAA Division II marks a significant milestone in collegiate sports. Division II is a collection of schools and student-athletes, fostering a healthy balance between academics, athletics and community engagement.

Over five decades, Division II has produced remarkable athletes and achievements while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and personal growth. This milestone celebrates the enduring legacy of Division II and its commitment to a transformative collegiate experience for student-athletes.

Anderson's rich athletic history has produced more than five dozen individual and team NCAA Regional appearances, including a Final Four appearance by the 2022 women's golf team, an Elite 8 appearance by the 2011 men's basketball squad, a pair of NCAA Sweet 16 appearances by the women's basketball team (2005 & 2015) and individual national wrestling championship performances by Careef Robertson (2005) and Jonathan Jackson (2010), while former wrestling standout Anthony DiCarlo was named the 2009 NCAA National Sportsmanship Award winner.
