Conlin Named First-Team Academic All-American

Conlin Named First-Team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Anderson University sophomore setter Emily Conlin has been named to the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Conlin, one of 20 newcomers on the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team, is the only first-team member who helped lead her team to the NCAA Tournament. Five of the seven second-team members made the NCAA dance, while two third-team honorees made the postseason as well.

Sixteen of the 21 members of the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team have a spotless 4.00 GPA, including all seven student-athletes honored as first-team selections. The only repeat pick on the 2017 squad is California Baptist University senior outside hitter Lauren Hackett. For the second year in a row, Hackett is a second-team choice. She is one of eight members of the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Volleyball Team who helped her club make the NCAA Division II playoffs this year.

Joining Conlin on the squad from the South Atlantic Conference is Mars Hill senior Lauren Hochstetler and Erica Whiteaker from Lincoln Memorial, who is the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award.

On the court, Conlin earned All-Southeast Region honors from both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) at the conclusion of the season. A native of Glendale, Ariz., Conlin wrapped up the season sixth in the nation with 11.85 assists per set, while posting 17 double-doubles and recording at least 40 assists in 15 matches. In just two seasons, she is fifth in the school record books with 2,538 career assists.

Conlin garnered Second-team All-SAC honors and SAC Freshman of the Year accolades a year ago and followed up with First-Team All-Conference recognition this year. She was named SAC Specialist of the Week twice this season, marking the fourth time during her career. As she did for most of the season, Conlin led the conference in assists and assists per set, while ranking third with 42 service aces.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
