INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Anderson University volleyball team is ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.
The poll still included five South Atlantic Conference teams and five squads from the Peach Belt. Wingate (22-2), which is still receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Poll, remained in the top spot in the regional rankings. The Bulldogs are second in the South Atlantic Conference standings, one game behind the Trojans.
USC Aiken, which lost for the second time in an eight-day span last Saturday, held onto the second spot in the rankings with a 22-4 overall record. Anderson (24-3) is atop the SAC standings and is riding a 19-match win streak after capturing four wins last week. With two games remaining in the regular season, the Trojans hold a one-game edge over Wingate in the league standings.
Flagler (19-3) jumped ahead of Queens after claiming a pair of wins last week and holds the No. 4 slot, while the Royals are 19-6 overall and are fifth in the rankings. Georgia College (20-5) also won a pair of decisions last week and remained sixth, with Carson-Newman (14-12) at No. 7 for the second straight week.
Augusta (17-13) moved up one spot to No. 8, while Lander (15-10) fell to ninth after losing two contests last week. Tusculum (15-14) rounded out the 10 teams in the poll.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
The three regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through November 15, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, Nov. 20.
The Trojans wrap up their regular-season slate with a two-match road swing, beginning at Tusculum on Friday. First-serve versus the Pioneers is slated for 7 p.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.
