Moran Joins Volleyball Coaching Staff

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University head volleyball coach Todd Hay has announced that former Newberry standout Rachel Moran has joined the Trojans as an assistant coach.

"We are really excited to have Rachel join the coaching staff," said Hay. "She's very energetic and a very outgoing person. I felt like we wanted a very positive personality on the team. After playing for me at Newberry, she has coached at the club and the youth level for the last two years. Having played volleyball and having coached it, she will bring good experience. Rachel she sees the game well and she's also very mentally and physically tough. We are glad she's here and I believe she will be a real asset to the program."

Moran, a native of Cypress, Texas, was a setter for the Wolves during Hay's stint as head coach at Newberry and dished out 2,550 assists over the span of 92 matches during her collegiate career. During the 2014 season, Moran posted a school-record 51 aces.

She helped lead the Wolves to 64 victories, including three South Atlantic Conference Tournament appearances and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2012 and 2013, while handing out a career-high 49 assists against Francis Marion during the 2013 campaign. Moran wrapped up her career with nearly 500 digs, 110 kills, a dozen double-doubles and notched 67 service aces during her final two seasons. She earned her bachelors degree in biology in 2016.

During her prep career, she led Cypress Woods to the 2010 Texas Class 5A state semifinals and the team made the Class 5A Elite Eight the following season. Moran was a five-time captain for her Willowbrook club teams and helped lead those teams to the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships on three occasions.

As a coach for her former club team, Moran helped guide her team to a pair of third-place finishes at national qualifiers and the 14 gold medal at the AAU national championships in Orlando this past summer.

Anderson will open the season against Emmanuel in the Georgia College Tournament on Friday, Sept. 1.
