Mitter Earns AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University outside hitter Marissa Mitter has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office, Tuesday afternoon.

The senior from Redondo Beach, Calif., helped lead the Trojans to another unblemished week, as the Trojans sandwiched sweeps of Catawba and Lincoln Memorial around a four-set win over Carson-Newman.

Mitter posted 45 kills and 30 digs in the three victories, while leading the SAC in kills (191) on the season and is tied for second in kills per set. She led all players with 17 kills behind a .361 hitting percentage and added 15 digs in the road win at Catawba, while sharing match-high honors with 17 kills and nine digs at Carson-Newman. Mitter polished off the week by leading all players with 11 kills and added six digs in the 3-0 win over LMU.

She has reached double-figure kills in four straight matches and owns six double-doubles on the season. Mitter leads the conference in kills and is tied for second in kills per set, while ranking fifth with 18 aces.

In the win over Catawba, Mitter became the 11th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills and needs just two more kills to surpass former Trojan standout Shaunte' Heyward (2003-06) for 10th place in the school record books.

The Trojans seven-match win streak is the fourth-longest in school history, with five of the victories going in the books as sweeps. With a win on Friday, the Trojans would equal the 1998 squad for the third-longest win streak in program history.

The Trojans open a season-high six-match homestand Friday night versus Tusculum. First-serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
